What is RDA(recommended dietary allowance)?
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is the average daily level of intake sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements of nearly all (97–98%) healthy individuals in a particular gender and life stage group (life stage considers age and, when applicable, pregnancy or lactation).
The RDA is one of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), a set of nutrient reference values used to plan and assess the nutrient intakes of healthy people. The other DRIs are the Adequate Intake (AI), the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL), and the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR).
The RDA is calculated based on the amount of a nutrient that is needed to prevent deficiency symptoms in most healthy people. It is not intended to be a target intake for everyone, as some people may need more or less of a particular nutrient depending on their individual circumstances.
Nutrient requirement is the requirement of particular nutrient in the minimum amount that needs to be consumed by an organism. It is used for preventing from the symptom of deficiencies. Also, it is required to maintain adequate level of the nutrient in the body of an organism.
